What is a Private DNS Cluster?
Before understanding what a private DNS cluster is, you should be aware of the purpose of the DNS itself. When a customer of yours orders a web hosting account and either registers a domain name or uses an existing one, that domain operates in accordance with its DNS record stored at the domain registrar’s. By default your clients should use our DNSes dns1.supcenterXX.com and dns2.supcenterXX.com. If a client’s domain name does not have those DNSes set, it will not point to the appropriate web hosting account on the server.
|
The Private DNS Cluster involves name servers, which you choose to register. They will be allocated to your clients’ domain names' DNS records. A cluster will emerge, representing your brand name. Your clients’ websites will be gathered in one network, using dns1.your-private-brand.com and dns2.your-private-brand.com. That will be your private branded network! |

Why do I need it?
The Private DNS Cluster is a reseller utility designed to help you create a unique web hosting store and brand awareness. The idea is also to maintain your anonymity as a reseller. It is highly recommended to think of a domain name that can be easily remembered. You can apply it to your web hosting store, your name servers and e-mail server. Of course, you can register a separate domain name only for DNS purposes and somehow associate it with your company or DBA name. |
The Private DNS Cluster can be successfully combined with the Private Label Reseller feature, providing remarkable proofs of the existence of your unique hosting company. As you already know, your brand name is displayed in the web hosting Control Panel, e-mail notifications, invoices, legal information and now it will be also in the DNS records of your clients’ domain names. The whois data of your clients’ domain names will contain your chosen DNSes. |

Why do you offer two packages?
The difference between the two packages consists mainly in the dedicated IP address that comes with the Private DNS 2 package, which uses this dedicated IP for its first name server. The benefits of the dedicated IP address are related to possible security issues that may arise if an unfriendly person tries to attack a website of a client of yours or the name server itself.
|
If it was a shared IP as is the case with the Private DNS 1 package, the risk would be higher for the attacker to cause an extended downtime or DDoS (distributed denial of service).
In other words, the dedicated IP set for your first name server will improve the internet security of your entire DNS cluster, making your clients’ websites almost 100% protected. |
