Error Page Trap - A Way to Advertise Your Hosting Services

Publish Date: Wednesday, August 08, 2007

Error Page Trap - this is the name of the new reseller hosting feature that we are implementing at the moment on the Reseller Control Panel. The feature is located in the Store Settings section where you must go to the Client CP tab and then click on Set Error Page in the drop-down menu. The aim of this feature is simple - to advertise your web hosting services taking advantage of the 400, 401, 403 or 404 errors that occur with your clients' websites. How can we do this?

Every time a problem occurs with an URL, host or a server, there are error pages that appear to tell us what the problem is. The common thing between these errors (400, 401, 403 or 404) is that they are received whenever someone wants to access certain webpage address. What will happen if, instead of the default Apache error pages, the visitors of your clients' websites see your web hosting offer?

Manage Error Page Trap

So, we have created websites that, beside the standard error messages, advertise your web hosting services - the hosting plans that you are offering with their pricing and links that allow the visitors of your clients' websites to signup.

The interface that we have implemented lets you choose whether you want to add the option to your clients so that your hosting offer becomes their default error page, or leave the Apache web server page to be displayed in case the customer hasn't added a custom page.

We recommend that you enable the Error Page Trap feature as this may bring you new sales. Anyway, you have the final decision, as always.
Please note that this feature is active in the Reseller Control Panel so that you are able to manage the Error Page Trap status now. We will activate it for your clients' websites tomorrow, so that you have some time to adjust its status to your private label web hosting reseller business model.

For the existing clients who have set customer error page URLs already, the Error Page Trap will not be applied as default error page, but will appear as an option in the Subdomain Manager of their Web Hosting Control Panel.
